Formed in 2012, Geekapella is Central Florida’s hometown geeky a cappella group! Their newest release, “Legends of the Hidden Demo,” is a hit among convention-goers throughout America. You’ve seen them performing at Florida conventions, but did you know they’re also an annual Dragon Con band? They’ve performed alongside bands like Random Encounter, Emerald Rose, The Doubleclicks, and The Cog is Dead, turning every event into a real concert with music from all your favorite fandoms. Do you like Star Wars, Batman, anime, or just enjoy weird internet things? You’ll find all this and more in their repertoire!

GUEST: Todd Haberkorn is coming to WasabiCon!

As a multi award winning actor behind the mic, on camera, and on stage- Todd Haberkorn has had the pleasure of working in a variety of mediums in the entertainment industry. The LA based actor is also a director for companies like Netflix and Funimation Entertainment as well as a producer for production groups like Geek&Sundry. And he’s even the voice of some fun toys like the Meccanoid robots- winners of the top prize at CES and America’s Most Innovative Toy of the Year Award.
In the animated world, he voice roles such as Grey Matter in Ben10, Sparrow Hood in Ever After High, Elfonso in Sophia The First, Natsu from Fairy Tail, Italy from Hetalia, Ling Yao from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Tierno from Pokemon, Allen Walker from D. Gray Man, Hikaru Hitachin from Ouran High School Host Club, Death The Kid from Soul Eater, and many others. He even got the infamous “and I would have gotten away with too…” villain line in an episode of Scooby Doo!
As far as video games go, you’d recognize his voice in the Call of Duty Series, Persona series, World of Warcraft, Street Fighter IV, Ghostbusters, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, Borderlands 2, and Rage to name a handful. His voice makes sure to get its marathon training as an award winning narrator for audiobooks. Do a Google search and you’ll find everything from thrillers and young adult to zombie sagas and children’s books. His latest win is the 2016 SOVAS award for best narration of a classic novel.
As far as on camera is concerned see him in the internationally recognized and award winning, Star Trek Continues, as Spock. Todd’s show, Otaking Heads, is a weekly look inside the world of anime with top industry guests and fun games–catch it on Geek&Sundry.

FEATURED TALENT: Bold City Cosplay

Bold City Cosplay began in 2014 with the vision of opening the world of cosplay to the general community. Last year, we began offering cosplay workshops, sharing our basic skills for creating costumes. These workshops also included open discussions on topics such as anti-bullying, prop safety, and cosplaying as a group. We also offer a large group of cosplayers and costumed characters for special events, such as conventions, corporate parties, and even weddings! Over the past year, Bold City Cosplay has developed its family-friendly values allowing us to also partner with charities throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
Bold City Cosplay is composed of well-known, award-winning cosplayers and character actors in the Jacksonville area. Our cosplayers have been featured on local television and in print and online media by several cosplay and “Geek” publications. Our team hopes to become North Florida’s premier company for cosplay and costumed character needs while promoting family-friendly events and charitable causes that everyone can get behind.

FEATURED TALENT: For The Love of Clod

Known by their fans as “Bob”, For the Love of Clod has been making waves in the Steven Universe cosplay community since 2016.  Their Peridot impression and propensity to cosplay characters immediately after their television debut have propelled For the Love of Clod to the forefront of the Steven Universe fan scene. Bob has hosted events at Wasabicon, Metrocon, Momocon, and more with distinctly interactive panels and quirky cosplays such as “Bob the Builder” and Peridot cosplaying as Percy from Camp Pining Hearts.
With over ten thousand instagram followers and lively YouTube videos in the works, For the Love of Clod loves talking panels, body paint, and together breakfast.

FEATURED ARTIST: Brittani Marie Crawford

Do you like the new Wasabizilla art that has been showing up?  That’s the talent work of Brittani Crawford.
Brittani Marie Crawford is an artist, animator, and Corgi enthusiast based out of Jacksonville, FL. She earned her BFA at Kansas City Art Institute after receiving world class instruction in a variety of visual arts, including 2D hand-drawn animation, graphic design, and painting. She considers herself a jack-of-all-trades and in the years since completing university has undertaken projects ranging from detailed sculpture, to costuming, painting, and video game concept art. She also has a passion for teaching and currently instructs adult painting classes, though she also spent 2 years overseas in Japan, teaching English to children.
Though she’s only been a Floridian for three years, Ms. Crawford has been very active in the local artistic community, serving as an invitational artist at GAAM (where she unveiled a 6-foot tall Charizard statue!). Her art inspirations pull heavily from the styles of her favorite anime and video games, especially the Final Fantasy series, Akihiko Yoshida, and the Dragon Age series. She considers hobby and career to be one and the same and will happily discuss chiarascuro techniques with the same passion as Bioware love interests (though Ms. Crawford will not be swayed from the mind that the only correct choices are Alistair and Fenris).
She will be set up in Artist Alley at WasabiCon again this year – so swing by and say hi!

ARTIST ALLEY space is on sale for WasabiCon 2017!

BW Midori SketchingArtists and creators of original content are an important part of the fan convention experience and each year we’ve celebrated this fact by offering discounted space for local talent to sell their commissions, prints, and other handcrafted goods.
Each Artist Alley space comes with:
One (1) six foot OR eight foot table in the Artist Alley area (based on availability)
Two (2) chairs
One (1) weekend pass to the convention labeled “Artist”
PLEASE NOTE that our Artist Alley is juried. This means that we review all applications and a committees from the event operations staff chooses the artists who will be approved. WasabiCon does this in order to make sure a variety of art styles are made available to the attendees – thus avoiding creators all selling the same style/presentation. This also helps artists by making sure they artwork is presented as a unique part of the event!
Each space is $100 (plus Eventbrite fees). There is a limit of one (1) table per artist. This is due to floorplan logistics and to be fair to other artists.
Up to one (1) additional Artist Alley badges may be purchased (per space) at $25.

FEATURED TALENT: Candy Keane (@CandyKCosplay) will return to WasabiCon!

Candy Keane is a cosplayer and costume designer that got her start making and wearing the infamous Slave Leia costume, which put her on the cover of Jedi Junkies, featured on the E! channel’s Top 25 Most Memorable Swimsuit Moments and in the Morgan Spurlock ComicCon documentary and book, where she also appears as Wonder Woman. She also made the costume worn by Kristen Bell in the movie Fanboys.
Candy won her first costume contest at the age of 5, and has been dressing up ever since. Her love of creating costumes led to a boutique and costume business that she ran for 11 years before closing in 2016 to concentrate on personal projects and raising her son. She plans on recapturing more of the fun aspects of costuming that got her started in the first place and is excited to embark on a new family focused cosplay venture while writing for her blog GeekMamas.com.
