In 2013, WasabiCon become one of the first events where William Salyers, the voice of Rigby from Regular Show, appeared as a guest!  While here, he managed to sign a few extra things for us…

This is it, folks… our LAST POST before the show.
WasabiCon is Jacksonville’s ultimate convention for fans of anime, cartoons, comic books, gaming, and all around geek culture.  The event takes place Saturday and Sunday, November 2-3, 2013 at the Jacksonville Marriott located right off of I-95 near Butler Blvd.  Tickets are $20 for Saturday, $15 for Sunday, or $30 for the weekend.

We have a solid guest list for our second event in Jacksonville, and we’re proud to welcome William Salyers – the voice of Rigby from the popular Adult Swim program Regular Show.   Mr. Salyers will be on site all weekend hosting panels and signing autographs for fans.
In addition, we’re also welcoming Chris Cason (Mr. Popo and Tien Shinhan in Dragonball Z), Candy Keane (our Cosplay guest of honor), Paranormal Crossroads (our Paranormal guests of honor), Paul Chapman (our Podcast guest of honor), and Lisle Wilkerson (Nina Williams and Christie Monteiro in Tekken 5).

WASABICON, JACKSONVILLE’S ULTIMATE POP CULTURE CONVENTION, IS THIS WEEKEND!
The event, now in its second year, offers “geek culture, extra spicy” to fans of anime, cartoons, comics, sci-fi, video games, and more!

(JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, October 29, 2013) WasabiCon is a two-day pop culture convention celebrating anime, cartoons, comics, fantasy, gaming, science fiction, and video games.  Now in its second year, the event will take place at the Jacksonville Marriott, Saturday and Sunday – November 2-3, 2013.  Events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM each day.

Tickets are available at the door for $20 Saturday, $15 Sunday, or $30 for the weekend.

WasabiCon will feature dozens of Fan Groups, Guests, and Featured Talent including:

  • From Adult Swim’s “Regular Show” – William Salyers!  Perhaps best known for his voice-over work as Rigby in Cartoon Network’s Emmy award winning Regular Show, Reverend Putty in Adult Swim’s Moral Orel, and popular video games such as Skyrim and Mass Effect 3,  Bill has also appeared in films and television, as well as many live theatrical productions in Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York.

  • Anime Voice Actor Chris Cason!  Mr. Popo and Tien Shinhan in “Dragonball Z”, Holy Roman Empire in “Hetalia”, Gluttony in “Fullmetal Alchemist”, Face McShooty and Mal in “Borderlands 2″, Jack the Ripper in “Soul Eater”, Miyamoto and M1 in “Yu Yu Hakusho”, Taruru in “Sgt. Frog”, Boo and Whitey in “Shin Chan”, Hanai in “School Rumble”, Ukyo in “Ouran High School Host Club”, Chamo in “Negima”, Babbit in “Kodocha”, Siegfried in “Kenichi”, and Hanbei in “Sengoku Basara” represent some of Chris’s favorite and best known roles.

  • Video Game Voice Talent Lisle Wilkerson!  Lisle grew up in Tokyo, Japan and moved to the US in 2008. She speaks fluent Japanese, and does her voice work in both Japanese and English.  She is the powerhouse behind some of of the gaming industry’s most popular characters such as Nina Williams and Christie Monteiro from the Tekken franchise, as well as Sarah Bryant from Virtual Fighter and Dead or Alive.  She has also voiced the Sanrio character Batz Maru, as well as quite a few Japanese anime.

WasabiCon 2013 Costume Contest rules are posted!

The WasabiCon 2013 Costume Contest is a chance for cosplayers to show off their hard work and passion for dressing up like pop culture characters.  The contest will take place Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 7:30 PM in Main Events.  You must sign up IN ADVANCE in Panels Room A at 4:00 PM.  (No entries will be taken right before the contest itself.)
THE RULES

  1. You must have purchased an entry into WasabiCon 2013 in order to enter/present on stage for the Costume Contest.
  2. The Costume Contest is a family-oriented event.  Please keep all costumes to a “PG-13″ rating  (i.e. no nudity or overly revealing attire).
  3. No bought costumes.  Costumes must be 50% crafted or more.  You may purchase parts of a costume, but said parts must be disclosed during the judging process.  If you are not the maker of your costume (and simply modeling), said creator of the costume must be present with you upon entry.  If the costume wins an award, the award will go to the creator of the costume.
  4. All weapons and props must conform with WasabiCon rules, hotel and convention center policies, and local laws concerning carrying a weapon.  If there is a question of doubt, don’t bring it.
  5. Please provide reference images of the character you are dressed as.  We cannot guarantee the judges will know what your character looks like, so having something to compare to will help you as much as them!  Please provide this image on a piece of paper to attach to your costume contest registration form.  No digital images (i.e. cell phones, iPads, portable computers, tablets, etc.) or books can be submitted for your reference image.  Please print the picture out for the judges.
  6. There is no restriction on costume source.  This means all genres & “original characters” are permitted in the contest.
  7. Each costume must be entered separately.  The costumes may be presented on stage (and prejudged) together, but each costume is judged as a separate entry.  Simply put: the “Best of Show” award can only go to one individual and not a group.  The “Best Group” award, however, is an example of multiple entries being presented together to win this award.
  8. The contest will be limited to 40 entries total.  (NOTE: Costume Contest entry forms are available at the convention ONLY.  You may pick them up at Registration when you pick up your badge/wristband for the convention or in Panels Room A at 4:00 on the Saturday of the con.)
  9. WasabiCon reserves the right to modify, update, or amend the rules at any time… just in case.
  10. Have fun!

THE INFO

  • REGISTRATION takes place Saturday at 4:00 PM in Panels Room A.  (You do NOT need to be in costume for this.)
  • SET UP (all contestants MUST report to Main Events for the Contest at this time) is at 7:00 pm the same day in Main Events.
  • THE CONTEST takes place that same Saturday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM in Main Events.

  • Best of Show (aka “THE winner”)
  • Runner Up (aka “the winner that’s not THE winner”)
  • Honorable Mention (aka “you were good enough for us to notice”)
  • Best Costume Group (aka “the folks who looked cool together in costume”)

PANEL: Attack on WasabiCon!

Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin (or SnK for short), is one of the most popular new anime and manga series out right now.  Are you a fan?  Do you want to know more about the series and see what the big deal is? In this Q&A panel, SnK Characters will be there to answer your questions. Come and talk to us about this fantastic franchise! We’ll be answering questions from the crowd, explaining SnK to newcomers, giving cosplay advice, and more!

WasabiCon 2013 Vendor Room Updates

We are less than two months from WasabiCon and things are going great for YEAR TWO!  We’ve had to make a couple of updates, though, regarding our vendors room in order to try and accommodate everyone.
BOOTH SPACE:  There were a limited number of 8×10 spaces in the vendors room, and they have sold out.  All remaining spaces are 8×8 – and they ARE LIMITED!  You can download the form here if you want to secure one: https://wasabicon.com/vendors
DEPOSITS:  Contrary to what the original form had stated, WasabiCon 2013 will NOT be taking $50 deposits for booth space this time around.  This was a policy Green Mustard Entertainment was testing, and it won’t be launched again until 2014.  For now – Vendors are only paying for the spaces they are purchasing without an additional $50 deposit.  (The form has since been updated to reflect this.)

Interested in a table at Artist Alley at WasabiCon 2013? Artist and creators of original content are an important part of the fan convention experience and each year we’ve celebrated this fact by offering discounted space for local talent to sell their commissions, prints, and other handcrafted goods.
Each Artist Alley space comes with: One (1) six foot table, two (2) chairs and one (1) weekend pass to the convention (for the Artist.)
Each space is $75 (plus Eventbrite fees.)

TOMORROW! The price for Vendor Space goes UP!

Interested in being a vendor at WasabiCon 2013?  Read on!  Convention attendees enjoy being able to shop and purchase merchandise related to pop culture, anime, cartoons, comics, video games, sci-fi, and fantasy at our event.  Thus we offer a “Vendors Room” as a part of the con going experience. Each Vendors Room space comes with:
An eight foot by ten foot area (8 x 10) in the Vendors Room

  • One (1) six foot table
  • Two (2) chairs
  • Two (2) weekend passes to the convention (labeled “Vendor”)

You can purchase one (1) additional weekend pass (labeled “Vendor”) per Vendors Room space that you order for $25. You may purchase additional tables for your space, as well, for $25 each.
There is a limit of four (4) spaces per vendor. This is due to floorplan logistics and to be fair to other vendors.
The price of each space is dependant on when you purchase it.
May 8, 2013 until August 31, 2013 (at 11:55 PM) – $150 per space.
September 1, 2013 until October 26, 2013 (at 11:55 PM) – $200 per space.

FAN PANEL Registration is open for WasabiCon 2013!

WasabiCon is a fan convention designed to celebrate anime, comic books, table top gaming, science fiction, video games, and all things “geek.”  Thus, we are on the lookout for a variety of panels that will help engage attendees in a variety of topics.  We do, though, have a few rules for panels at the convention…
1. ONLY ONE PANEL PER PRESON/GROUP. We want to present a variety of perspectives regarding geek culture and – while we appreciate you hosting a panel – we want to make sure you have the time to enjoy the rest of the convention!
2. ALL PANEL HOSTS MUST BE PAID ATTENDEES OF THE CONVENTION. We don’t offer comp passes for single panel presentations. And we don’t allow more than one panel per person/group. (You can see where we’re going with this.)
3, PANEL CONTENT MUST BE APPROPRIATE TO THE THEME OF THE CONVENTION – GEEK CULTURE. A panel about physics wouldn’t really work. A panel about the physics in the Star Trek universe would absolutely work. A panel about the physics in the Stargate universe would make Joey Snackpants a happy camper.
4. ALL PANELS MUST NOT EXCEED A PG-13 RATING. WasabiCon is a convention designed to feature content for all ages. While me may offer some 18+ events, they are tightly regulated and offered late in the evening.
5. SCHEDULING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON THE NEEDS OF WASABICON. We will do our best to work with you on scheduling the panel in a time slot that works best for everyone involved. If, for unforeseen reasons, we need to change when your panel is scheduled, we will let you know in advance.
