Each year WasabiCon grows a little more but, as many of you saw first hand, this year the event grew a lot. WasabiCon 2018 attracted 3,610 attendees over the weekend, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. So on behalf of the production team: THANK YOU! WasabiCon is a community event and you, the fan community of North Florida, is what drives it year after year.
While we were humbled by the outpouring of fans that showed up this year, it caught us completely by surprise creating a few new challenges. Each year we approach these challenges as the blueprint for the next… for example: in 2017, our top complaint was lack of available food. This year we had a fully operation restaurant, food station, two food trucks, and a beverage vendor in the Exhibitor’s Hall. To make sure we’re addressing the challenges of this year head-on, we are launching a post convention survey.
And we’re willing to BRIBE YOU to do it.
Everyone who completes the survey will be entered to win a WasabiCon prize pack including a t-shirt, two lanyards, a decal, a pin, and a mask from the Rickmobile that was parked out front of this year’s convention. You must complete the survey before midnight on October 31, 2018 to be entered. You can click here to do the survey, or fill it out below. Good luck – and thanks again for helping us grow WasabiCon in Jacksonville!
Here’s a short story for you: The company that owns WasabiCon used to own another convention in Florida called Florida Anime Experience. In January of this year, that convention was sold and merged into the popular MegaCon convention in Orlando, Florida. Since it started in 2011, FAE (Florida Anime Experience) sold Lifetime Passes a few at a time each year. During the convention’s seven year run, about fifty people managed to secure these passes. When FAE ended – those passes transferred to WasabiCon. Until now, we haven’t offered Lifetime Passes (and we don’t plan to start selling them this year).
BUT. But we are planning to upgrade one person’s weekend pass to a Lifetime Pass.
Interested? Here’s how to enter. STEP 1: RSVP for WasabiCon 2018 on Facebook. That’s pretty simple. Just go to this link and click “Going”: www.facebook.com/events/520132978356434/
STEP 1A: Already RSVP’d? Change your status from “Interested” to “Going”. This is important because it helps qualify you for winning the upgrade. STEP 2: Invite your friends to WasabiCon 2018! Click the “Share” button and select “Invite Friends”… and then INVITE ALL YOUR FRIENDS.
STEP 3: Buy your ticket for WasabiCon in advance. Why wait in line at the con? Get you ticket in advance here: www.wasabicon.com/tickets Voila! You’re entered! So how do we pick a winner?
Once we hit 1,000 Going on the Facebook Event, we pick a winner from everyone “Going”.
We’ll confirm you have a pre-registered ticket and then upgrade it to Lifetime Status.
That’s it! You’re with us FOR LIFE. Now here’s the fine print:
No purchase necessary to enter or win! Well, you have to buy a pass for us to upgrade, so that rule was incorrect. 🙂

What is “Freedom Japanese Market“? From their website: Our family started Freedom Japanese Market as a way to fill the need of many of our friends who had moved away from Japan and were depressed they could not find quality Japanese snacks in their own country. Many of these complained the “Made For Foreign Markets” Japanese snacks didn’t taste like the real thing. On a family vacation to the U.S., we were shocked to see that many of the snacks in international stores were not even made in Japan, or were dangerously close to their “Sell By” dates. We knew then and there we had to do something; we decided to make it our goal to bring the Japanese snacks we love to the rest of the world. If you love Japanese snacks, the advantage of buying from our Japanese based subscription box service is clear: all your snacks come directly from Japanese manufacturers and are shipped directly from Japan to your home or office. The boxes we send often include many limited edition snacks only available to the Japanese market for a limited amount of time. We also include an English content list with color pictures, and a short explanation about what Japan is like during each season. We want our customers to know what they are eating, as well as provide some information about Japanese culture with every box. We also include a handmade, seasonal origami (with English explanation). Our team of experienced snack lovers is in charge of putting together a balanced box of sweet, savory, and fun snacks that you are sure to enjoy! Rest assured that if we wouldn’t buy a snack for ourselves, we wouldn’t think of sending it out to our valued club members.
