Cosplay After Dark: 18+ Competition

Competition Rules

1. You must be a registered attendee of the convention on the day of the competition in order to compete.
2. All competitors must be 18 years of age or older and present a valid government-issued photo ID at check-in. Competitors who cannot provide valid identification will not be permitted to participate.
3. The competition is for individual participants only. No group entries will be accepted. A group is more than one (1) person.
4. Only one (1) costume may be entered per cosplayer.
5. All attendees and competitors must follow WasabiCon’s standard attire policies while in public convention areas. Competitors may make competition-specific costume adjustments only after entering the designated backstage area for Cosplay After Dark. Those adjustments must still comply with the rules below.
6. This Cosplay Competition is NOT a family-oriented event, and revealing or suggestive costumes are permitted. Nudity, however, is not permitted. At minimum, genitals, buttocks, and nipples/areolae must remain covered with opaque material at all times. Suggestive poses and presentations are permitted, but sexually explicit acts, simulated sexual activity, or intentional exposure are not. If a costume or presentation does not comply with these requirements, competitors may be asked to modify or cover elements before participating.
7. Remember that prior to the competition, you will still be in public areas of the convention – so plan to be appropriately covered in accordance with our event policies. Private changing space is not provided, but you may change backstage prior to the competition.
8. Purchased and commissioned costumes are permitted. The person wearing and presenting the costume is considered the competitor and will be judged on their overall presentation, character portrayal, stage presence, and visual impact. If a costume was created or commissioned by another person, the competitor should credit the creator when registering. Costume creators are not required to be present, and any award or prize will be presented to the registered competitor.
9. Competitors may not contact or attempt to influence the judges regarding their entry before or during the competition. All decisions regarding eligibility, rule compliance, judging, placement, and awards are at the discretion of WasabiCon staff and judges and are final.
10. Please make sure elements (such as fake blood for horror costumes, etc.) are dried when presenting on stage. The walk-on area needs to remain clean and safe for all our competitors.
11. All weapons and props must conform with our convention policies, the rules of the host venue, and local laws concerning carrying a weapon. If there is a question of doubt – don’t bring it. You can read our event rules including our Props Policy online at https://jax.wasabicon.com/policies/
12. This competition is a showcase where contestants walk on and present their work. Skits, music cues, and lighting requests are not permitted.
13. Green Mustard Entertainment, Inc. reserves the right to modify, update, or amend these rules at any time.
